Here’s the TRIQ: The Tromsø Interest Development Questionnaire Based on the Four-Phase Model of Interest Development

The Tromsø Interest Questionnaire (TRIQ) is the first suite of self-report subscales designed for focused investigations on how interest experienced in relation to Hidi and Renninger’s four-phase model development. In response plethora varied measures that already exist terms theoretical grounding, form, tested quality, TRIQ were with a consistent form measure general interest, situation dependence, positive affect, competence level, aspirations, meaningfulness, self-regulation answered some object interest. Two studies testing subscales’ performance using different objects (self-chosen “object-general,” prespecified “object-specific”) provide evidence internal consistency, temporal reliability, phase-distinguishing validity. Patterns across two demonstrate sufficiently reliable valid domain-tailorable tool particularly effective at distinguishing phase 1 (triggered situational) from 4 (well-developed individual) findings raise interesting questions further investigation about distinction distance between all phases, push-pull factors influence interests evolve additional add suite.
